Andalucia’s rich and fascinating culture is one of the most exciting and distinctive in all of Spain. This area was deeply influenced by more than half a millennium of Muslim rule during the Middle Ages when universities were established and Islamic and Jewish scholars played a major part in reviving and contributing to Western astronomy, medicine, philosophy and mathematics. We see their stunning legacies, such as the amazing Alhambra in Granada, the Mezquita in Córdoba and the Reales Alcázares in Seville.
During this luxury tour of Spain, we explore the heart of southern Spain, including the cities of Seville, Córdoba and Granada. We walk through smaller villages and ‘white towns’ to meet the locals and experience natural beauty, such as the Grazalema Natural Park declared Reserve of the Biosphere by the UNESCO. We spend time in the ancient towns of a Ubeda and Baeza with architecture and civil planning dating back to the 9th – 13th centuries. One of the biggest influence on these towns was the Renaissance of the 16th century when emerging ideas from Italy made their way to this region and can be seen in a number of beautiful buildings.
Delight in the magnificent architecture, fascinating history, distinctive culture and cuisine
During this luxury tour in Southern Spain, we savour authentic Andalusian cuisine, such as gazpacho, pescaito frito (fried fish), jamón from Trevélez, and some of the best tapas in Spain. And of course, indulge in the wines and sherries of the Jerez region and take a guided tour of one of the most illustrious Bodegas in Jerez.
Guest stories from our luxury small group tour in Spain
“We had an absolutely wonderful time on our tour in Southern Spain. The itinerary was brilliant! Our guide Jim was outstanding. He was attentive to everyone’s needs and very knowledgeable. His happy disposition and excellent organisational skills made for a memorable and most enjoyable stay in Southern Spain. Nothing was a problem. The other guides during the tour were also fantastic – particularly the guide we had in Cordoba. He was a wealth of knowledge and made our tour of the Mosque a standout memory.”

“The incredible buildings (Alhambra; the Cordoba mosque unbelievable); the ambience of the small towns; the beautiful countryside. It was also a fabulous opportunity to see parts of Spain that I would never have got to on my own, especially the smaller towns that aren’t served by public transport (eg some of the places we stopped enroute to other towns and also Ubeda and Ronda, and the countryside walks). Jim was a terrific guide. He is really knowledgeable about the history and politics of Spain and very informative. He is also very well organised, easy going and personable and a good walking/hiking guide as well.”

“This trip ticks all the boxes in Andalusia – the big-ticket places and smaller unexpected delights. Walking in the mountains, sampling all the delicious tapas and wines and being blown away by the history, art and architecture of this region. Not to mention relaxing by the pools of lovely hotels or watching/hearing Flamenco and other musicians.”

I had a wonderful trip and found the guiding and the range of activities very enjoyable. The hikes were all quite different and the history of this region is extraordinary but in some ways not so well known. The cities of Seville, Granada and Cordoba all have something very different to offer and the smaller villages have little gems tucked away also. The food, wine and sherry wine in this area was very good and it is always fun trying to navigate the Spanish eating and drinking times. I am keen to return to Spain.

Such a wonderful trip exploring so much of the Andalucia area. Each day had yet another highlight, from beautiful hikes, to exploring the white villages, eating amazing tapas, and visiting stunning landmarks. All in the expert hands of Jim, our extraordinary guide.

From the people, culture, food, wonderful history and architecture of Andalucia’s Moorish past to the natural beauty of its walks in smaller villages and sierras this is a stunning trip. Having travelled with Epicurious before, we had high expectations, but these were exceeded. Quite simply a must do trip if you enjoy fine food, great accomodation and walking in areas without tour buses and crowds.
