Experience extraordinary culture and cuisine on our luxury tour of Peru

Exploring not only the rich culture and history of its Incan Empire and the inimitable World Heritage site of Machu Picchu, we also focus on the incredible food culture and the devotion to a unique and outstanding cuisine. Quite a few years back Ferran Adrià, chef at the famous El Bulli restaurant in Spain said “Peru is fostering the world’s next gastronomic revolution”. The following year Peru was awarded the world’s leading culinary destination. On the 2024 World’s 50 Best Restaurant list, Peru achieved 4 restaurants in the top 50, with 2 of those in the top 20 – not bad for a population of 34 million people. In 2023 Virgilio Martinez’s Central in Lima was number 1. The restaurant was among the first fine dining places in Latin American to break away from relying on French, European or Western techniques and instead crafted an individual experience that took its inspiration from the biodiverse ecosystems of its country.

We spend time exploring the local markets and small villages of the beautiful Sacred Valley also known as Urubamba Valley. This fertile valley is located in the Peruvian Andes and is fed by a network of waterways and encompasses a wealth of archaeological sites. In Lima and Cusco we  visit a selection of amazing museums and architectural highlights.

Peru was once the centre of the biggest pre-Columbian civilisation (the Inca Empire) and Lima was the capital of the Spanish Colony in South America for almost 300 years. These two factors are significant in understanding the development of such a refined cuisine and also in making Peru an incredible destination in terms of history, culture, art and tradition.

Guest stories from our luxury tours of Peru

“The Epicurious travel tour of Peru was perfect and exactly what I had been looking for. I had wanted to taste the foods of Peru, to learn something of the country’s history and to see the landscape, all of which this trip did for me. The tour was worth it for the culinary aspect alone, but it also took in many cultural and natural highlights. The hotels, guides, vehicles and so on were all spot on, with no hitches. Jennifer makes a very entertaining host and it’s obvious that she does her research and makes her arrangements within each country very carefully, making the holiday very relaxed from the client’s point of view. If you’re seeking a foodie holiday in a very different country, then this tour is perfect.”
